Here’s why I love the shit out of this scene. Firstly for the comedy of the collective “BITCH YOU DID NOT.” in the third gif. Also, though, for the way that Sherlock immediately defends Mrs. Hudson despite the fact that he’s not supposed to have those social cues or love anyone enough to use them.
Finally, because of Mycroft’s face in the last gif. He’s obviously shocked; because he KNOWS that it’s out of character for Sherlock to react like that. And then that split second right at the end of the last gif when his face drops. The way he stares at Sherlock before glancing over at John and Mrs. Hudson.
It’s like he realizes that Sherlock is learning these social cues all of the sudden, and he’s learning to love people, like Mrs. Hudson. But in that same split second he realizes that it’s not him that taught him those cues, despite no doubt trying, and it’s not him that Sherlock’s learned to defend (in fact he’s the one Sherlock’s defending from).
In those last split seconds of the gif it’s like you can see his heart break a little bit as he stares at Sherlock and then glances over at the man that managed to do what he wasn’t able to do: giving his little brother a heart. And when he apologizes, you can see the hurt in his eyes after his fake, polite little smile.

And when you watch the scene, he says “apologies” in such a soft voice; a voice a bit unlike his usual confidence.
I’m probably reading WAY to much into this scene but DAMNIT MYCROFT FEELS.
ALSO MARK GATISS FEELS FOR BEING AN AMAZING ACTOR.

as sunshine flows into trees: Dominique shares some really interesting thoughts on Sherlock & intellectual isolation based on my post last night:
I stumbled on this link earlier and meant to send it to you. I forgot because I fell asleep. I was wondering what your thoughts were.
I thought it correlated to what you mentioned about how Sherlock could survive isolation better. Mentally speaking, he’s always…
This is why I find Sherlock Holmes to be such a fascinating character. This is also why I love the BBC Sherlock, because it shows John and Sherlock before their relationship. Not only is it fun to show their attachment to each other grow, but it makes you think about Holmes without Watson. It makes you consider the idea of Sherlock growing up with this detachment from people (whether natural to him or learned from his surroundings or childhood cruelty, because kids can be assholes to people like Sherlock) and wonder how deeply it goes.
I wonder about Sherlock sometimes, and Mycroft, too, about their apparent superiority complexes setting them apart from people. I wonder how lonely it gets, or if they can even notice loneliness. I wonder if Sherlock will notice his loneliness now that he’s had companionship. I wonder if Mycroft is ever jealous that Sherlock has found that companionship, or jealous of John for getting close to Sherlock.
God. This show, man. Just….. Everything about this show….
Long ramble to a simple point; this was a good post.

Made my mother watch the first episode of Sherlock. She said she was too tired for another but made me promise to wait and watch the next episode with her. Yes.
Also, when Mycroft kidnapped John to the warehouse she was like “Is that Moriarty?” and I said no, and then she said “Oh, well he’s very creepy.”
Then, after the episode, she was like “I want to look at those pinups you drew again now that I know their personalities.”
-
There. Sherlock pinups.
-
I plan to write a very strongly worded letter to Mark Gatiss about the difficulty of drawing his face.
Andrew Scott, too. Bastards.
-
Well then, you’ll be extra pleased to hear that I’m also doing Mycroft, and I’ve already finished Sherlock, John, and Moriarty.
